Our business model

The WellMed business model is physician-owned and patient-centered, similar to an Accountable Care Organization (ACO). As an early adopter of the ACO philosophy, WellMed has continuously demonstrated how the health care delivery system can work by reducing costs and improving care while also enhancing and saving lives.

This model is designed to provide the most efficient, comprehensive and proven care techniques to treat the whole patient—physically, mentally and socially—at each visit. WellMed works with physicians, specialists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and staff who all share one important characteristic: genuinely caring about patients and their health.

As a health care company primarily focused on the wellness of patients with Medicare, WellMed owns other medical-related divisions that make receiving preventive health care as easy as possible for our patients.

Enterprise

WellMed Medical Management Inc.

WellMed Medical Management Inc., part of Optum®, is a “capitated, full-risk” Management Service Organization (MSO) with an HMO structure. We assume “full-risk” for our patient’s health through percentage of premium arrangements with multiple payer partners. This means we manage the premium that insurance companies receive from CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services) for the provision of health care.

WellMed Charitable Foundation

WellMed Charitable Foundation (Opens in new window) is an independent non-profit organization that supports seniors and caregivers in the communities we serve. Funding is raised by community donors and WellMed employee contributions.

Comfort Care Transportation

A transportation company catering to eligible senior patients with a medical or financial need. Comfort Care contracts with select Medicare Advantage health plans to provide this service to members.

Homecare Dimensions

Homecare Dimensions helps those who are home bound with an illness or injury live with dignity and support. Homecare Dimensions provides resources and equipment that make day-to-day life both manageable and comfortable for members and their loved ones, all brought to the comfort of their home.

WellMed Medical Group, P.A.

WellMed Medical Group is a physician-led, physician-driven company specializing in the complete health care coordination for patients in Texas.

WellMed Networks Inc.

WellMed Networks Inc. – A WellMed company that accepts the contractual health care insurance risk for contracted and affiliated providers servicing the Medicare-eligible population in Texas.

Bexar Imaging

Located in San Antonio, Texas, Bexar Imaging (Opens in new window) offers a wide variety of radiology services, and has been a part of the WellMed family of health care facilities since 2003. Bexar Imaging services a wide range of patients and specializes in older adult care.

USMD

USMD (Opens in new window) is an integrated health care organization located in the Dallas – Fort Worth area. With nearly 250 clinicians, USMD cares for patients of all ages with a focus on preventive care.

Healthcare Associates of Texas

Healthcare Associates of Texas (Opens in new window) has more than 100 clinicians who provide primary care to families across the Dallas – Fort Worth area at nearly 15 clinic locations.

Florida

WellMed Medical Management of Florida Inc.

WellMed Medical Management of Florida, Inc. offers board certified family practice and internal medicine physicians and certified physician assistants in greater Tampa, greater Orlando and the Treasure Coast areas.

WellMed Network Inc. of Florida

A WellMed Network division that holds the contract with independent physicians, specialists and mid-level providers in Florida that focuses on preventive health care and quality outcomes for patients with Medicare.

Optum Florida

At Optum Florida (Opens in new window), patients can expect personalized care designed to help them meet their health goals. Primary care clinicians and care teams are focused on helping patients stay healthy. With over 150 doctors and 70 neighborhood locations in Florida, Optum Florida offers patients quality, affordable care with access and convenience.
